We Have The Right Of Way, Don't We?

Waiting at a stop sign for traffic to clear, my fourteen year old son asked me that. I was startled until I thought about it. We rarely stop. So I explain why we don’t have the right of way. Then I try to explain why we only stop when something is coming, but when he is out by himself he is always to stop, and when he starts driving the car, he especially has to. I’m on pretty solid ground with the car – I do stop. We always stop at the lights too – car or bike. The bike is the same as a car, I tell him. Most of this conversation takes place in a residential area with plenty of stop signs that we blow right through. I wonder if he listened…

What ever can kill you has the right of way. Always. Getting that is all that really matters.
